Lattice Charge Overlap II: Aspects of Charged Pion Polarizability
نویسنده
چکیده
Formulas are developed for use in lattice studies of charged hadron polarizabilities. In particular, the valence quark different-flavor component of the charged pion polarizability is examined on a 163 × 24 lattice at β = 6.0 using Wilson fermions. Using the elastic limit results of Part I of this series, it is concluded that this represents a small negative component of the full charged polarizabilty.

Charged Pion Polarizability From the Lattice
Direct evaluation of charged particle polarizabilities on the lattice is quite difficult. However, a short cut for charged pion polarizability the Das, Mathur, Okubo Sum Rule can readily be calculated using lattice techniques. A phenomenological model has been developed to fit the time behavior of the propagators in this expression. Numerical systematics are discussed and some preliminary resul...
متن کاملLattice charge overlap and the elastic limit
The results of a lattice simulation of time-separated charge overlap for the charged pion are discussed. The expected result ∼ exp[−(Eq − mπ)t ] for large charge density overlap time separations, t, is clearly visible in the Fourier transform, indicating that the elastic limit can be achieved at low to medium momentum values on present-sized lattices. The implications of this result for direct ...
متن کاملMeasuring the charged pion polarizability in the γγ → π + π − reaction
Development has begun of a new experiment to measure the charged pion polarizability απ − βπ . The charged pion polarizability ranks among the most important tests of low-energy QCD presently unresolved by experiment. Analogous to precision measurements of π◦→ γγ that test the intrinsic odd-parity (anomalous) sector of QCD, the pion polarizability tests the intrinsic evenparity sector of QCD. T...
متن کاملA Lattice Investigation of the DMO Sum Rule
An evaluation of charged pion polarizability using correlation functions measured on a 16 3 × 24 lattice in the context of the Das, Mathur, Okubo (DMO) sum rule is carried out. The calculation is limited to the so-called intrinsic part of the polarizability. This contribution, equivalent to a Eu-clidean time integral over vector and axial vector momentum-differentiated propagators, is evaluated...
متن کاملPionium Decays and Pion Polarizability
We calculate the decay of pionium atoms into two photons. The pion polariz-ability gives rise to a 10% correction to the corresponding decay width for pointlike pions. This opens the possibility to obtain the polarizability of the charged pion from a future measurement of this decay width if the ππ-scattering lengths are known to better than 5% precision. We also comment on the contribution of ...
